Blurred Vision

Jessie when you gonna get a real job?

You know, make some real money you can live on?
When will you stop chasing a dream and wasting your time?
When will you realize people don’t care to read your shit, even if it rhymes?
We’re all working careers we don’t like
To make ends meet,
And you’re not special just because you can write,
It’s a dream.

Jessie when you gonna face reality?
Quit waiting for your big break and submitting page after page
Just for the publishers to wave you away?

You’re not Poe, you’re not Hemingway
The words you write aren’t that special,
You’re not educated enough.
So many writers in the world, you’re not the best of ’em.

Your vision of me is so blurred.
Your unsolicited advice will leave me undeterred.

I got 20/20, I know what I’m seeking.
All I ask, all I need is that one person to believe in me.
Just one person to read everything I have to offer, to understand that I’m more than somebody’s troubled daughter.
The one person to go through dozens of my Google Docs
Put everyone in my life in shock
Write my name in permanent ink, not chalk.
They’ll know my face from the US to Bangkok.

One day, yeah one day everything will change.

I’m so focused, I’m so devoted.
One of these days I will cause so much commotion.
You may think I’m loco, last few years of my life have been somewhat of a soap show.
But you should know though,
Don’t forget this, don’t dismiss this.
This is your one and only warning so be sure to listen.
I’m driven, I’m gonna change my tradition.
I’m on a mission, I will be heard.
I’m the next up, I give you my word.
“Published by J,” will be in bold one day, not blurred.
